The number of Americans infected with the coronavirus has risen by more than half in the past week to more than 9,000 people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The number of confirmed cases has more than doubled to 8,000 from 2,000.
The CDC has reported the number of new cases to be at more than 8,500 from 2 the day before the announcement.
The new tally includes more than 6,000 cases from the United States and two other countries, including Mexico.
The virus has killed more than 14,000 Americans, the CDC reported Wednesday.
